Music at Chalmers Church
Music plays an active role in worship at Chalmers Church. The Choir’s Sunday anthems and other choral music are chosen to reflect the Lectionary passages for each Sunday, or to pick up other suitable themes. Congregational hymns are chosen in consultation among the Ministers, the Music Director, and other members of the community who offer skills in liturgy, poetry, and theology. Organ music sometimes reflects upon hymns which will be sung; sometimes it builds outward from an anthem, exploring other music by a particular composer, or music similar in theme. Occasional music by other instruments is similarly related to the themes or spirit of each service. The guiding principle is that whenever possible, the song of the church should be integrated as a connected part of the whole worship experience.
