Joyce Holden was born into a Quaker family in Indiana; a daughter of a minister. She came to Canada in 1983 and shortly after her arrival she joined Chalmers In 1984 when she was hired as the Associate in Ministry with Rev. Wayne Hilliker. They worked together as a team for 16 years. Joyce began her ministry in Christian Education and Pastoral Care, but over time concentrated more on Worship and Pastoral Care.
During those years Joyce volunteered and was elected President of Bay of Quinte Conference; and served on the Education and Students Committee and Pastoral Relations Committee of Kingston Presbytery; as well as the Budget Steering and Faith Formation Units of The United Church of Canada. She retired from ministry at Chalmers in 2000, but came back for the year in 2005-6 to act as the Worship Coordinator and Liturgist during our time of transition.
In June 2007, Joyce accepted the invitation and appointment as the Moderator of Chalmers Congregation and the chairperson of the Council of Elders Joyce says that “Being a part of both the congregation and leadership team has been a wonderful gift. Being Moderator of the congregation is another honour and challenge for me. I ask your continued support and prayers.”
