Dear Member of the Chalmers Community,
We are writing to ask you for your support for Stewardship 2008. This annual stewardship campaign asks you to renew your generous commitment to the ongoing work and activities of Chalmers United Church and The United Church of Canada. Like last year’s campaign, this campaign is about living more gratefully and more generously by recognizing the important work of our local and national Church through the many programs that bring hope and meaning to people - Worship, Christian Education, Pastoral Care, Outreach, and Mission. Stewardship 2008 has four objectives:
• to encourage all members of our community to participate actively in the life of Chalmers;
• to strengthen the financial foundation of our local church by asking all members of our community to make a pledge to support our important ministries;
• to significantly increase the number of families who make their contribution through PAR (pre-authorized bank remittance) in order to provide our church with a regular cash flow to support our programming and ministry throughout the year;
• to increase our support for the wider church through The United Church Mission and Service Fund.
Unlike last year’s campaign, however, there will not be a visitation. Instead, we asking each of you to reconsider your own commitment and to respond generously if financially able to do so, keeping in mind the financial impact that inflation has had on all of our ministries. Indeed, just to maintain our ministries at their present level requires at least an overall increase in givings of 3%. Stewardship recognizes that there are many ways that people give to our church – through their time, their talents, and through their financial support. We only ask for your financial commitment because all our important ministries are dependent on having a firm financial foundation.
We have also enclosed information on a Gift of Securities. This form of giving offers significant income tax advantages for those who may be facing capital gains on their stock holdings in the current year.
We urge you to respond generously, complete the enclose pledge form, and mail it to the Chalmers Office, 212 Barrie Street, Kingston, ON K7L 3K3. Please return this form before Celebration Sunday, February 24, and join us that day at service to celebrate our renewed commitment to our church.
Sincerely, Chalmers Stewardship Committee
